The Companion Animal Welfare Council (CAWC) published a report on the Regulation of Companion Animal Services in relation to Training and Behaviour which distinguishes between independently assessed and accredited qualifications and those that are just set by the awarding body for their own courses, unregulated and not subjected to any sort of public accountability.  Some people put letters after their name implying some sort of qualification when it may instead just be membership of a particular organisation.

Always ask about qualifications and memberships and what was actually required to get these.
